Arizona State Credit Union Donates 20 Tons of Water to Phoenix Rescue Mission
Water delivery to offer relief in midst of record August heat wave
PHOENIX, Ariz. –Arizona State Credit Union donated more than 2,000 cases of water to the Phoenix Rescue Mission. The contribution could not be timelier with August temperatures spiking at 117 degrees, the hottest temperature recorded in August since 2001.
With the Phoenix Rescue Mission distributing 4,000 bottles a week to the homeless, the Credit Union’s donation provides enough water to support their needs for at least three months.
“Water drives, like Arizona State Credit Union’s, are invaluable to the work of the Phoenix Rescue Mission, especially with triple digit temperatures,” said Nicole Peña, director of donor and public relations for the Phoenix Rescue Mission. “With supplies that last weeks, we can widen our street outreach area beyond the inner-city, ensuring that known homeless camps around the greater Phoenix metro area receive water and the opportunity to come to our shelter.”
The water drive ran for three weeks in August and called on the efforts of all associates –from those at the Credit Union’s headquarters in North Phoenix to those in Northern Arizona, Safford and Tucson branch locations. The friendly competition encouraged teamwork and created the motivation needed to surpass the Credit Union’s 2008 water drive donation and meet their goal.
“With a 35 percent increase in donations from the 2008 water drive, I continue to be encouraged by Credit Union associates and their desire to help those in need,” said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. “While everyone joined in the fun and spirited competition, the ultimate winner was the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Supporting such community focused campaigns is part of the Credit Union mentality, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to donate to such a worthy cause.”
The Phoenix Rescue Mission provides relief to homeless people throughout the Valley. With Arizona's summer heat, those living on the streets are at high risk for dehydration and other heat-related illnesses. The Credit Union donated to the Phoenix Rescue Mission because of the direct impact the organization has on the local communities the Credit Union serves and their ability to provide immediate assistance to those in need.
