Arizona State Credit Union announces $25,000 grant to Tucson Worker Training Program
Arizona State Credit Union Obtains $25,000 Grant From the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco
Tucson, Ariz.— A grant of $25,000 benefiting Tucson's Community Housing Corporation has been announced by Arizona State Credit Union. The grant will help clean landfills, provide used computer equipment to low income neighborhoods and train homeless people with computer technical skills.
Pima Computer Recycling, a subsidiary of the Community Housing Corporation in Tucson, approached Arizona State Credit Union with a worker training program for people who have been marginalized-most workers will be referred from local homeless shelters. Starting with the computer recycling program's primary function of removing electronic waste from landfills, workers will be trained to repair computers and return them to use. As the workers develop these skills and gain certification, they will be employed part-time as the program assists them in finding full-time employment. The computer equipment they repair will be provided to low income neighborhoods at low or no cost.
Because of its membership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, Arizona State Credit Union was able to obtain the AHEAD (Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development) grant for $25,000 and to distribute the funds to Pima Computer Recycling.
"Arizona State Credit Union's unique ability to affect change in the community through this grant creates more than just a temporary solution for the community; this is a long term solution that will add a significant number of marginalized individuals to the workforce and provide them the opportunity to earn their way to a better life," said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. "We're proud to have been able to obtain the grant needed for this excellent worker training program."
