Arizona State Credit Union Helps Prevent Identity Theft in 5th Annual Shred-a-Thon

Credit Union offers $150 to those who open a qualifying checking account during green community events

PHOENIX, Ariz. –Arizona State Credit Union encourages community members to get rid of old, sensitive documents by shredding and recycling them at one of the Credit Union’s seven Shred-a-Thon events.

Members and non-members can also receive $150 when they open a qualifying checking account*.

Events will occur throughout the Credit Union’s Northern Arizona branches with Chino Valley kicking off the series on April 8. This is free to all members of the community and helps raise awareness about the importance of shredding personal documents to protect against identity theft.

“More than 48,000 pounds of sensitive documents were shredded during last year’s Shred-a-Thon events, demonstrating the need for this service,” said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. “As a local financial cooperative, we feel it is our responsibility to provide this opportunity to the communities we serve.”

This is the fifth consecutive year Arizona State Credit Union has hosted shred events. As part of a sustainable model, this green initiative is just one of many outreach programs that give back to members and Arizona communities.

Documents to bring to the Shred-a-Thons include bank statements, tax returns, medical bills, credit card statements and other personal documents.

Shred-A-Thons will be hosted at seven of the Northern Arizona State Credit Union branches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The events are open to all members of the community, with a limit of five boxes per person. Below is a complete list of branch locations and dates:
